Recently I whined about imposing the practicalities of survival on a design education. This 1992 report by Asaf Degani, On the Typography of Flight Deck Documentation [1.5 Mb PDF], is a little chilling (if indeed checklists and manuals on planes are still so erratically designed) and not entirely handsome, but it offers some detailed comparative analysis of what is and isn’t likely to work in safety checks and, uh, worse.
