Movie pick of the moment: Airheads. A sort of combination Die Hard, Pump Up the Volume, Dog Day Afternoon and Spinal Tap. Brendan Fraser (who deserves but never gets the good roles, unlike that twerp Damon Pittaffleck) fronts a metal band with the great bugeyed Steve Buscemi and a pre-ubiquitous Adam Sandler. They storm a radio station with watergun Uzis to demand airplay, and the mayhem flows. Everybody is in this movie: the cast is like a farm team for every crappy comedy made in the late ’90s. Plus Lemmy from Motörhead. Plus Joe Mantegna as the DJ, pushing the sliders up to eleven.
It’s pretty sharp: lots of ragging on the music business, and pleasantly free of reference to that ‘alternative’ nonsense that was everywhere in ’94, when the movie was made. Rent it right now. Go.
—Who’d win in a wrestling match, Lemmy or God?
—Uh, Lemmy ... no, God.
—Wrong, dickhead. Trick question. Lemmy IS God.
